Tips for Choosing Your Flat

Choosing your first flat is a really big decision so definitely don’t rush it! I’d recommend to start looking at the start of summer since this seems to be when a lot of student flats go back on the market but if you miss it don’t worry, all throughout summer there will be options but look quickly and often to be safe. I’ve made some tips that you should think about when choosing a flat to make sure you enjoy your time living there☺️. 1. Location 📍 This ones so important for a few reasons! Firstly, how close is your work, uni or college for example, if you’re not really close thats fine but consider how accessible and reliable is public transport from where you are. Next, what’s the area like for example is it a peaceful neighbourhood or a busy street in the city, think about what you’re like and if you feel you fit into the area. If you’re moving to Glasgow, I recommend Southside if you’re not keen on living in the city as it’s close enough (also cheaper) and its a similar vibe to t...

5 Tips for Living With Others

I live with 2 of my friends I’ve known for years but I know moving out will be a different experience if you’re moving into accommodation with strangers but these are tips I think would help in both situations to make your time more enjoyable!  1. Set Expectations 📝 If you’re planning on moving with friends this is much easier as you kind of already know each others values and having those in common is probably why you’re choosing to live together. If you’re moving in with strangers expectations around cleaning, shopping, noises and guests etc is something you should discuss early on to avoid arguments.  2. Respect each others space and things 🪴 Don’t leave shared spaces a mess! You’re all living there and even if you don’t care for mess but one of your roommates has previously said it bothers them, then out of respect for them tidy up! Living together means you most likely will use each others things but make sure to ask first, your room mate will probably say yes but just...

Easy Meals When You've Just Moved Out

For some people cooking when you move out can be quite difficult, maybe you’re not used to it as you’ve always lived at home and someone’s cooked for you. Or maybe not and you've always been quite independent but either way cooking for yourself every night can take some getting used too. This post is to give you some ideas of some easy meals that don’t take too much time to make incase you need some inspiration one day🌟 ❗️these were not made by a chef❗️(even tho it might look like it ;)) me and my flat mates just made them and loved them! 1. PASTA🍝 Pasta is amazing you can do so much with it and it’s so cheap and can be simple to make! This is some of our go to’s: Vodka pasta Feta pasta (picture 1) Pesto pasta (quick option) Chicken Alfredo (picture 2) Stir in sauces (very good for when you’re feeling lazy) You can honestly do anything with pasta my go to is a stir in sauce with peppers and quorn pieces. 2. Fried rice 🍚 This has been one of our favourites since moving out, I did...

Tips For Moving Out For The First Time

Moving out especially for the first time can be overwhelming! For most of us it’s our first time being fully independent so I’ve made some tips to help prepare you and hopefully make the process less stressful. These tips based on my own experience of moving out so may not be relevant to everyone but I hope at least some help! 1. Prepare financially 💰 This first one is obvious but is so important! It’s not only rent you need to think about its bills, council tax, food, furniture etc. I’d recommend trying to save up a few months of rent before you plan to move, this helps for if you end up moving out sooner than expected or for example if you're waiting on a student loan it keeps you covered. I’d work out how much your rent and bills will be and when you get paid make sure you put that amount away, we have a bank account with sections for rent and different bills and we have direct debits come out when we get paid. If you’re a student you’ll be exempt for council tax but make sure ...

Things To Do (Southside of Glasgow)

Hey! I’ve made some recommendations on fun wholesome things you can do specifically in the Southside of Glasgow (this is where I stay) but not everything is specific to a location! Some suggestions involve spending money and some don’t, all can be done with friends or alone! 1. Go for a walk! This seems so obvious but especially if you’ve just moved somewhere it’s a great way to explore a new area and get used to your surroundings and also going outside as much as you can always benefits your mental health!  🌳 Queens Park Me and my flat mates love going to Queen’s Park especially in the good weather! It’s perfect for a walk or even just to sit on the grass, have a picnic or get some uni work done.  Glasshouse in Queens Park 🐮 Pollok Country Park   This is the most beautiful park I’ve ever been to! There’s so much to see especially the highland cows!!  2. Parklane Market⭐ This market is on the first and last Sunday of every month, I’ve only been once but will defini...

Settling In After Moving Out

In August this year I moved out for the first time and it’s honestly been the best decision I’ve ever made. If it’s something you’ve recently done I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am or if you’re considering it maybe this post will help you decide. If you asked me a year ago if I’d be moving out this year I probably would’ve said no, not because I didn’t want to I just didn’t know if I was ready since it always felt like such a big decision (I’m not good at decisions). The opportunity of a flat came up at the start of the summer so me and two of my best friends took it!👪🏡 It can be scary the thought of moving somewhere else, before I’d have said I’m someone who takes a while to settle, so I thought I’d find this difficult but I was always looking forward to it. But honestly I’ve settled so fast, one thing I done that helped to make this easier was made sure I got a new job before uni started so that I had a chance to settle in before I had the stress of uni as well so I’d reco...
