Settling In After Moving Out

In August this year I moved out for the first time and it’s honestly been the best decision I’ve ever made. If it’s something you’ve recently done I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am or if you’re considering it maybe this post will help you decide.

If you asked me a year ago if I’d be moving out this year I probably would’ve said no, not because I didn’t want to I just didn’t know if I was ready since it always felt like such a big decision (I’m not good at decisions). The opportunity of a flat came up at the start of the summer so me and two of my best friends took it!👪🏡

It can be scary the thought of moving somewhere else, before I’d have said I’m someone who takes a while to settle, so I thought I’d find this difficult but I was always looking forward to it. But honestly I’ve settled so fast, one thing I done that helped to make this easier was made sure I got a new job before uni started so that I had a chance to settle in before I had the stress of uni as well so I’d recommend that.

Decorate as soon as you move in, make your space feel homely and fit your aesthetic. When I first moved my room felt so empty and not my own but as soon as your own things are in it it will feel more normal. You don’t need to buy lots of new furniture for this, moving out is expensive especially if you’re not a student and paying council tax⚠ Luckily I am, so I’m exempt but I feel for those of you who have to pay it. I brought most of my furniture from home, put some pictures up and buy some plants it will help you feel at home. 🪴

I’m so glad I’ve moved out. There’s something so freeing about moving away and if you have the opportunity to live with friends take it!! Do it while you can you wont regret it, I’d heard lots of horror stories about living with friends but don’t let this put you off! We have the best time and obviously this isn’t the case for everyone but I think to prevent this, live with people you’ve known for a while if you can, I’d known my friends for 9 years and now they are my home!

Tips For Moving Out For The First Time

Moving out especially for the first time can be overwhelming! For most of us it’s our first time being fully independent so I’ve made some tips to help prepare you and hopefully make the process less stressful. These tips based on my own experience of moving out so may not be relevant to everyone but I hope at least some help! 1. Prepare financially 💰 This first one is obvious but is so important! It’s not only rent you need to think about its bills, council tax, food, furniture etc. I’d recommend trying to save up a few months of rent before you plan to move, this helps for if you end up moving out sooner than expected or for example if you're waiting on a student loan it keeps you covered. I’d work out how much your rent and bills will be and when you get paid make sure you put that amount away, we have a bank account with sections for rent and different bills and we have direct debits come out when we get paid. If you’re a student you’ll be exempt for council tax but make sure ...
